A Message from the Executive Director

At Drueding Center, our mission of partnering with families experiencing homelessness is grounded in change and transformation. We help families heal from trauma, restore hope, and break the cycle of homelessness. This journey requires courage and trust, as families give themselves permission to transform their lives with our support by their side.
Now, Drueding Center faces its own moment of transformation. Following the Philadelphia Continuum of Care's recommendation, the Department of Housing and Urban Development discontinued funding for transitional housing programs in Philadelphia. Preparing for this, our leadership and board initiated a strategic "reimagining" of our center to enhance the services we provide to the Philadelphia community.
To continue meeting our community’s needs, we are embracing change. We engaged a housing consultant to help secure funding for renovations—a process that may take up to two years.
During our transition, Drueding Center is maintaining 10 to 15 transitional housing units and continuing vital services, such as child care, the Green Light Food Pantry, After Care, New Neighbors Permanent Supportive Housing, and Blueprint Case Management. To sustain these operations amid reduced HUD funding, we are relying on grants and donations.
Change can be daunting, but it also brings exciting possibilities. Our vision to support young families experiencing homelessness in Philadelphia remains unwavering. We are learning new ways to fund and develop programs that meet the needs of families in supportive housing.
Looking ahead, we will collaborate with peers who have navigated this change, and work with the Office of Homeless Services to explore new opportunities. We are committed to providing exceptional transitional housing and continuing our community programs, remaining a beacon of hope.
The support of donors like you is more crucial than ever. To offset the funding gap, we have streamlined our operations, but we need to raise an additional 13% over last fiscal year to ensure we can continue offering essential services and transformative support.
